ILTP volunteers spent the day doing more than just gardening—they helped a dream come to life.
With shovels in hand and smiles on their faces, the volunteers offered their time and energy to a special needs home, working together to create a space full of beauty and peace. They softened the soil, cleared away weeds and stones, and carefully added fresh topsoil—laying the foundation for a flower garden that had long been wished for. It wasn’t just about the physical work. It was about care, patience, and creating something meaningful for a family that had always dreamed of having a garden of their own. The joy on the family’s faces said it all. What once was just an idea became a growing reality—thanks to the kindness and commitment of the volunteers. It was a day filled with laughter, teamwork, and the simple joy of giving. And now, in that backyard, something beautiful is blooming—hope.

On April 12, ILTP volunteers joined hands with Elizabeth Family Church for a meaningful outreach effort in support of religious freedom in Japan. It was a day rooted in purpose, where voices came together to stand up for a right that touches us all—the freedom to believe, worship, and live in accordance with one’s faith.
Through heartfelt conversations and open engagement, the team connected with community members, raising awareness and gathering 30 signatures for a petition calling for the protection of religious freedom. Every name signed represented more than support—it was a statement of solidarity and hope. At the heart of the initiative was a message that rang loud and clear: “Religious freedom for one is freedom for all.” In that spirit, the outreach reminded us that defending the rights of others is also a way of honoring our own. ILTP volunteers brought warmth and care to the Woodcliff Christian Harvest Food Pantry in North Bergen. With open hands and full hearts, they joined a mission that nourishes more than just stomachs—it uplifts spirits.
The pantry, a lifeline for many in the community, serves hundreds of families each month with dignity and love. This time, ILTP volunteers played a key role in preparing a welcoming space. They sorted and arranged canned goods, cereals, fruits, and other everyday essentials, making it easy for each family to choose what they needed with comfort and ease. What stood out most wasn’t just the hard work—it was the smiles exchanged, the gentle conversations, and the quiet understanding that everyone deserves support, no matter their circumstances. Parents left with bags of food and lighter hearts. Volunteers left with a sense of purpose, reminded that small acts of kindness can make someone’s day a little brighter. In preparation for the vibrant spring season, ILTP volunteers rolled up their sleeves and took part in a park cleanup event at Branch Brook Park on March 29, 2025. Partnering with the Branch Brook Park Alliance, the team worked together to help refresh and protect one of Newark’s most treasured green spaces.
Under the guidance of volunteer leader Ms. Summer, participants received a brief orientation outlining the day’s goals. Their first task: clearing leaves and debris from different areas of the park. This essential step made way for fertilizer soil to be applied—supporting the healthy growth of spring flowers throughout the park. To help preserve the beauty of these blooming spaces, volunteers also installed fencing around flower beds and delicate vegetation. These protective barriers will help ensure that park visitors can enjoy the scenery without disturbing the plants. The teamwork and dedication shown by both ILTP volunteers and the Branch Brook Park Alliance made a meaningful impact. Together, they helped create a cleaner, safer, and more welcoming environment for the entire community to enjoy this spring and beyond. Today, March 22, 2025, was an incredibly productive day of collaboration at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore in the Capital District! Everyone the team worked with was genuinely supportive! A huge thank you to Mr. Thomas, Ms. Emilie and Ms. Nina for their assistance, as well as to our fellow volunteers, Ben and the rest of the team!
Our volunteers not only understand the mission of the organization but also actively help prepare the store for opening by organizing, pricing, and cleaning. When customers arrived, they delivered excellent customer service and offered assistance with both large and small furniture items! Everyone had a great time, and the customers expressed their appreciation with kind words! It's hard to believe this team managed to see so many NYC attractions in just one day. It was incredible! No matter the weather, nothing could hold them back! They had an absolute blast.
Our ILTP participants had an amazing time exploring the nation’s capital!
From visiting the Lincoln Memorial to walking through the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, every stop was full of meaning. Being in those historic places helped everyone connect with the stories and people who shaped this country. They walked the National Mall, saw the U.S. Capitol up close, and visited museums and monuments that brought history to life. For many, it was their first time seeing these sights in person—and it left a big impression. But beyond just sightseeing, the trip sparked real conversations. It reminded everyone how important it is to stand up for what’s right, care for others, and be leaders who make a difference in their own way. This adventure through D.C. wasn’t just a trip—it was a powerful experience that brought the past into the present and gave our participants a lot to think about as they look to the future. Sumiko-san encouraged everyone by saying, "Let's lend our support to churches." Her heartfelt words inspired our participants, who eagerly stepped up to help.
On a rainy Saturday, they volunteered at Connect Point Family Church, undeterred by the gloomy weather. Their dedication to spreading love and kindness shone through as they cleared away old bonsai trees and planted daffodils—symbols of hope and new beginnings after a long winter. As churchgoers passed by, many paused to say “Thank you,” bringing smiles to the volunteers’ faces. It was a joyful reminder that serving others brings its own kind of happiness. The team had the profound opportunity to visit the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historical Park in Atlanta, Georgia. This meaningful experience took them through the birthplace of Dr. King and the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church, where he once delivered stirring sermons that moved a nation.
Walking through these sacred spaces, the group was reminded of Dr. King's incredible legacy as a leader who tirelessly championed equality, justice, and nonviolent resistance. His unwavering vision of a world where all people live together in peace and dignity continues to be a guiding light for generations. The visit sparked thoughtful conversations about the importance of compassion, fairness, and unity. It challenged each person to reflect on how they can actively contribute to building a more just and loving world—starting with everyday acts of kindness and understanding. |
